My Work

As a visual artist I went through experiences in various plastic languages such as painting and drawing with master Lydio Bandeira de Mello, but it was through the sculpture that it became more legitimate for me to privilege the forms as I currently bring as an element of work and research.

In my sculptural production, I develop relationships between the three-dimensional, constituting different scales, angles, volumes and textures, that open to infinite unfolding in the overlays of diverse perspectives, with varied works.

The Mask theme has always inspired me, and throughout my career the same identity is expanded from my creative process and plastic language, and from the beginning this aesthetics remained present, awakening the path followed with vigor as transcendence for other plans.

The evolution of the designs produced inspire my designs and are expressive in works in sharp contours, which unite my characteristic fascinated by exploring what the Mask watches and reveals to us.

The wealth that lies behind the Mask itself accepts all possible otherness that opens and finds us as in a hug. It does not put distance, allowing the observer to circle around it and inviting it to enter that universe.

Art itself promotes connections, and in this panorama dialogues with the genesis in the relation creator and creature, making itself present in this intense exchange between the hands that accentuate the form and the dimension of the look in an exercise of materializing the evolution of the artistic process.

I am currently linking my sculptures with their image in the photograph, reminding me of what Picasso said to Brassai: “It is in his photographs that I can” see “my sculptures”.

I participate in exhibitions at international institutions: Milan, Paris, Rome, Madrid, Miami, Palermo, Venice, Portugal; and national: Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo.

I was invited to 58th. Bienale of Veneza, and created for my solo exhibition project that composes at the center a large inflatable installation that characterize my works, sculptures in bronze and ceramics, and on the walls will be exposed photographs of the sculptures produced along my make artistic. The essence projects a poetic essay with the title of this installation: “The Embrace”.

This process, because it is playful, promotes a dynamic along with what is static. It has the objective of making the three-dimensional setting, dialoguing and inviting the viewer to interact, moving and touching the work, bringing close to the meeting of the shelter embedded in this embrace with each other, a place of affection.

The project was conceived from the size of the space that the Galeria Palazzo Zenobio made possible.

My trajectory

I inaugurated the Gallery of Contemporary Art from the period of 1980 to 1998, after completing my undergraduate education at the College of Art Education.

In the space that we form, we idealize courses of art, room of expositions and molduraria. We started exhibitions with artists who were part of the “Generation 80”, gaining notoriety and recognition in highlighting the artists who belonged to the scenery and cultural heritage of Rio de Janeiro. These artists had great visibility through space, which allowed the beginning of beautiful careers for several who were consecrated later.

In the course of those years, I devoted myself totally to the direction and curation of the Gallery together with the artist and recorder Dora Basilio, who had returned to Brazil after finishing a scholarship residing in London. We were introduced by art critic Marc Berkowitz.

In all exhibitions there was a frequent audience that appeared, critics, intellectuals and collectors in the scope of the plastic arts.
In recent years I have transformed the space of the former Contemporary Art Gallery into my atelier, producing everything from composition, panoramic immersion and all artistic expressions that interest me.
